Guinea-Bissau: ECOWAS Escalates Pressure on Sissoco

ECOWAS' efforts to get USE to normalise the political situation in the country have focused on getting him to schedule both elections. The organisation's latest initiative, in DEC 2024, was accompanied by a statement of willingness to send a delegation to Bissau with the mission of promoting contacts that would facilitate the progress of the processes.
The countries in the region that have shown the most concern, albeit discreetly, regarding the situation in Guinea-Bissau are Senegal and Nigeria - in both cases with new PRs who have moved away from the conciliatory lines of their predecessors towards USE. The new president of Senegal, DIOMAYE FAYE, is cautious in his attitude for fear that USE, feeling affronted, could come to support the independence movements of Casamance. READ MORE
