Mozambique: Greater External Support in Light of Internal Military Weaknesses in the Cabo Delgado Conflict

The military response in recent weeks from the FADM and the joint Rwandan force (Rwanda Defense Force - RDF and Rwanda National Police - RNP), now under the command of the newly arrived EMMY RUVUSHA, has been marked by operations aimed at neutralising jihadist hideouts, particularly in Macomia (AM 1469), but the assessment is not yet complete.
Local sources also indicate that the deployment of the Rwandan contingent, currently comprising around 4,500 military personnel and police (AM 1454), to regions previously under the responsibility of SAMIM (SADC), which has since withdrawn, is negatively impacting security in the key district of Mocímboa da Praia, due to the insufficient number of Rwandan and FADM troops.
