Mozambique: Degradation of Security in Cabo Delgado and EU-Rwanda Relations

The Rwandan contingent - military (RDF) and police (RNP) - is the only force capable of containing the further escalation of the insurgency, seconded by the rapid intervention units of the police (PRM).
The contingent has been reinforced, currently standing at around 4,500 soldiers and police on the ground, occupying areas previously under the responsibility of SAMIM, namely in the critical district of Macomia, where c. 2,000 Rwandans are deployed, while also remaining in strategic districts such as Palma, Mocímboa da Praia and Ancuabe, to the south.
