Angola: Pope's Visit Disappoints Regime
The Pope's visit program included a trip to Saurimo, a city in the so-called "deep, impoverished interior." The authorities preferred a city with a different character – Lubango or Huambo. The choice of Saurimo as the destination for the Pope's internal visit was made by CEAST (Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé), its prevalence being seen as a sign of the Catholic Church's independence from the regime.
