Mozambique: Mining and Gas Sector Under Pressure on Several Fronts

In the meetings between the government/FRELIMO and the opposition parties, mainly PODEMOS, RENAMO and MDM, the extractive sector dossier was always present and was included in the agreement signed by all. The parties want more transparency, for the principles of probity to be applied, for conflicts of interest with business ministers to be prevented, and for the local content law to be amended, with more compensation for the local populations affected by the DUATs.
In Inhambane, as governor, DANIEL CHAPO was committed to reviewing the terms of the agreement with SASOL in 2020 and contributed to stabilising relations between the South African company and local communities in Temame, Inhassoro district.
