Angola: Haste and Recourse to ‘All Means’ in the Campaign Against UNITA

In addition to the ‘haste’ with which the regime appears to intend to carry out this campaign and the rusticity of the techniques and methods mobilised for it, there is the ‘maximalism’ of the objectives set. This time they are not limited to removing ADALBERTO COSTA JÚNIOR (ACJ) from the leadership of UNITA; they are also aimed at preventing him from being replaced by LIBERTY CHIAKA (LC), the leader of his parliamentary group.
SINSE, within which a dedicated task force has been set up, and the Office for Strategic Studies and Analyses (GEAE), a PR department with a leading role in the regime's propaganda policies, including control of the state's main information media, are the most active bodies in this campaign. The judiciary has been given the finalising role of giving legal form to decisions.
The part reserved for SINSE in conducting the campaign consists mainly of covert actions, including material grooming and manipulation of individuals whose profile, real or ‘worked up’, fits the campaign's purposes; or ‘active measures’ of individual or group intimidation. READ MORE
