Mozambique: Rwanda Still Indispensable in Context of Change

The beginning of a presidential term with new protagonists and the gradual loss of operational capacity of the armed jihadist cells in Cabo Delgado in recent months, with fewer attacks and fewer casualties and increasing supply difficulties, indicate a new framework in the management of the conflict in the province. Information is circulating about jihadist surrenders, with reports indicating that two dozen have turned themselves in to the police in Macomia in recent days.
In Mozambique, the Rwandan military presence is expected to extend far beyond the resumption of the LNG project in Area 1, led by Total Energies, through security for the DUAT, with an extension of c. 7,000 ha. The Rwandan private security company ISCO Global, belonging to the FPR Crystal Ventures Limited (CVL) holding, has been on the ground since late 2022 with nearly 500 personnel in Afungi. To this end, it has created a local branch, owned 70% by the parent company, with the remaining 30% owned by Osman Yacob SGPS, one of the main economic groups in Pemba (AM 1430). READ MORE
