Angola: Biden's Visit "Mobilizes" Regime, Opposition, and Society
In a recent meeting between the leader of UNITA, ADALBERTO COSTA JUNIOR (ACJ), and the U.S. ambassador, TULINABO MUSHINGI (TM), requested with the intention of raising awareness about the "convenience" of giving JB's visit program a scope that does not confine it to the regime, the response was not considered satisfactory – the same occurring with parallel contacts in Washington.
It is common in influential circles that the government, through his own initiatives, lobbying, or the influence of others, has been acting to try to prevent the agenda of the visit from being limited to acts considered "official". A procedure with the same purpose was followed in the preparation for the recent visits to Angola by the King of Spain and EMMANUEL MACRON, the President of France – in this case, it was duly reciprocated.
