Mozambique: Re-grouping of Insurgents and Withdrawal of SAMIM Heighten Risks in Cabo Delgado
The Security and Defence Forces, including the military of the FADM and the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR) of the PRM, with the participation of the militias designated by “local forces”, continue to engage in “cleaning” operations in the coastal districts of Macomia, Quissanga and Ibo in an attempt to regain control of several locations of Cabo Delgado that in recent weeks have been under the control of Islamic-inspired armed groups.
The arrests of jihadists are accompanied by movements in villages to obtain food in order to celebrate the end of fasting during the recently ended Ramadan. On 15.APR, the FDS took two insurgents hideouts in Mbau, Mocimboa da Praia, area under the responsibility of the Rwandan contingent. Clashes were also recorded in Chinda, in the same district.
