The “retreat” of Crédit Agricole from Rovuma LNG follows similar positions of other banks to divert funding for projects in the area of energy transition and renewables. A similar position was taken by Barclays - which was the largest European funder of projects involving fossil fuels between 2016 and 2022 - HSBC, UniCredit and BNP Paribas, all belonging to the “portfolio” of funders of the LNG project.
