Angola: Natural Gas Development Compromised
At the level of MinPetro, as ascertained, the revival of demand for oil and gas and for some oil projects, due to the rise in prices in 2022, was seen as an opportunity to reverse the trend of decline in oil production and ensure the viability and relaunch of the natural gas industry (Angola LNG Project).
Bearing in mind the need to develop new natural gas projects, the tax regime applicable to Angola LNG was changed by presidential decree, granting additional incentives for research and development, production and sale of natural gas. In addition to changing the tax regime in force, to ensure the supply of gas to the Angola LNG Project in the medium and long term, the costs of obtaining purchased gas are now deductible for the purpose of calculating the taxable income for the year in which they occur, among other tax benefits (AM 1363).
