Mozambique: France Reinforces Military Support in Cabo Delgado as Insurgents Wane
The existence of active armed cells still capable of attacking isolated locations does not compromise the general tendency of the insurgents to lose ground and maneuver.
The international community is mobilizing to support the FADM in a more sustainable way. France has lately been increasing its military cooperation, in a strategy understood in diplomatic circles mainly as being “political”, but also in response to the intentions of Total Energies. This multinational maintains the suspension of the natural gas project in Afungi under the “reasons of force majeure” that it alleged when it decided to remove the staff and stop the construction of the LNG site (AM 1381).
Rwanda's presence in Cabo Delgado was also implemented on the advice of Paris, which has used the European Union (EU) to co-finance the Rwandan contingent. READ MORE
