The current paralysis of the process of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) of RENAMO guerrillas is putting in check the mediation of MIRKO MANZONI (MM), current secretary of the contact group and special representative of the UN SG in Mozambique. The DDR is being implemented by four structures created for this purpose in 2018, under the coordination of MM: the military affairs commission; the technical group for framing the FADM (armed forces); the technical group for the DDR, with the occasional intervention by external experts, responsible for mapping and identifying bases and collecting and registering weapons held by RENAMO; and the monitoring and verification group.
