Cabo Verde: Economic and Social Crisis Shakes Government
The recurrent public interventions of the PR, JOSÉ MARIA NEVES (JMN) with a focus on matters within the competence of the executive are considered a reflection of the generalized perception that a climate of dissatisfaction with the government is increasing in the country. It is conjectured that it takes care, thus, to “dampen” the climate of discontent prevailing in the country, but also to “stimulate” the government.
The attention given by JMN to the economic crisis and its social effects (it also became more active at the diplomatic level) has focused on issues such as operational problems in maritime and air transport; in cases of public administration dysfunction (as in the municipality of São Vicente) and the country's extreme dependence on foreign aid.
