Mozambique: Businesses of FRELIMO Elite Make Reforms in the Extractive Sector Unfeasible
Despite being seen as essential in approaching the non-military solution to the ongoing conflict, the reform of the extractive sector, especially with regard to the involvement of the populations and the limitation of “resettlements”, remains outside the government's political agenda.
In the last 10 years, there has been a significant increase in companies exploring mineral resources in Cabo Delgado and in other regions of the country. The province's mining registry reveals that almost half of the territory is reserved for concession zones and prospecting areas.
