Angola: Increase in Pre-Election Tension Forces the Regime to Appease
Following previous protests, namely in the provinces of Benguela and Huambo, 19.MAR dozens of UNITA supporters were detained by the police in Uíge, after clashes. The MPLA's local headquarters were vandalized, along with the local radio station and the residence of the municipal administrator of Sanza Pombo. The police operations, with arrests, lasted for several days.
In relation to previous elections, those of 2022 are evaluated in restricted political circles as having particularities that add to partisan rivalries, of ethnic and social extraction. READ MORE
