Angola: Dependent on Political Power, Constitutional Court Advances Case against UNITA
The Constitutional Court (TC) is considered in a memorandum supported by a survey carried out on State institutions that interfere in electoral processes or in their administration, as a “de facto extension” of the government and, “by osmosis”, of the party, MPLA , due to its hegemonic control of the State, at its different levels.
The previous PR, JOSÉ EDUARDO DOS SANTOS (JES), also controlled the higher courts. His authority and prestige, superior to those of his successor, allowed him, however, to use methods of persuasion on judges who, through their discretion, preserved the image of the institutions.
