Mozambique: SADC Contingent Limited in Increasing Effectiveness on the Ground
The persistence of attacks by Islamic-inspired armed groups in Cabo Delgado, especially in the districts of Macomia, Nangade, Quissanga and Meluco, and the spread of violence to the provinces of Nampula, Niassa and Zambézia are contributing to the postponement of the “normalization” of the security situation in the province, hindering humanitarian aid, the reconstruction of infrastructure and the resumption of the natural gas project by Area 1, led by Total.
The prospects for restoring the security of the province are still vague and the operational reinforcement of the national contingents that make up SAMIM (SADC Mission in Mozambique) is pointed out by sources consulted as a priority and urgent for the anti-insurgency effort. READ MORE
